Chili’s Job Descriptions

Server – The role of the Server is to serve food and beverage orders to guests in a timely manner, learn the menu and explain the different offerings to the customers, and performing opening and closing duties.  Other responsibilities include partnering with other servers to ensure the customers have everything that they need and maintain a clean and organized section.

Line Cook – The Line Cook is responsible for properly executing all of the company’s recipe procedures, preparing a variety of food with different methods of preparation, and communicating ticket times to Servers.  Other duties include following company safety, sanitation, and cleanliness policies and procedures.

Host/Hostess – The Host/Hostess position is responsible for giving the customers’ a warm and inviting welcome while managing the wait list.  Other responsibilities include communicating customer concerns to the Manager, answering the telephone within three rings and directing calls.

Bartender – The role of this position is responsible for providing an enjoyable bar experience, being visible behind the bar at all times, and assisting customers and team members as needed.  Other duties include providing responsible service of alcoholic beverages, having up-to-date knowledge of all food, liquor, beer, wine, and retail offered, and ensuring that the station is kept clean, organized and stocked.

Chili’s Interview Questions

The following questions are examples meant to assist you in preparing for your interview.

What do you know about this position?  It’s best not to guess so do your research before your interview.  Research the company and the position that you are applying for so you can answer these types of questions concisely.

How do you deal with being under pressure?  The restaurant industry can be very hectic and chaotic which causes a lot of stress.  Give an example from your previous work history that will highlight how you have managed to overcome these types of stressors.

How long are you willing to fail at this job before you succeed?  This sounds like a very odd question to be asked but the reason behind it is to find out what kind of endurance and perseverance you possess.  A good way to answer this is that you will fail as quickly as possible so you may learn from your mistakes and succeed.

Can you give me some examples of what teamwork is?  You can answer this question from school or work experience, but make sure you are detailed in how your example is one of teamwork.

Advice for Application Process

There are a couple of things that you should accomplish before you start the application process.  The first step is to research the company and the position.  Write down any questions that you have to ask the recruiter.  Then update or create your resume to focus on your skills and abilities that are appropriate for the job that you are applying for.

Once you have completed the application, the interview process is generally complete in three stages.  The first stage will be with the Assistant Manager and will go over topics such as job skills, availability, etc.  Once you have completed stage one, you will then be asked to complete a series of tests that consist of mathematical and personality assessments.

Once stage two is complete, you will move on to stage three which will either be one on one with the General Manager or with a panel of hiring managers.  This stage will go over specific topics of personality-based topics and specific solution-based questions.

Regardless of which stage of the process you are in, you will want to dress professionally and use good hygiene habits.  Be relaxed while having good posture, smile, and make eye contact.  Answer each question succinctly while using your previous experience as examples.  At the conclusion of each stage, make sure you thank the interviewer for his or her time and consideration.
