The company and its first store were established in 1947. It was founded by husband and wife, Rudolf and Nancy Talbot. The first store was opened in Hingham, Massachusetts. In 1973, it was sold to General Mills which was acquired by AEON Co. Ltd. in 1988. Today, it is owned by Sycamore Partners.

The company has stores in Canada and 45 states in the US. It has more than 500 stores, upscale outlet stores, and clearance sales stores. It maintains its headquarters in Hingham, Massachusetts. It currently employs more than 5,000 staff in its stores and corporate offices.

Full Time Warehouse Associate: Warehouse Associates are needed for the company’s logistics department. They are expected to perform general warehouse responsibilities. A high school diploma is required for this position.

Client Specialist: Client Specialists provide exceptional customer experience in Talbots stores. They create and promote a hospitable culture for clients. This in turn, encourages customers to keep coming back and patronize the company’s products. They are also expected to be knowledgeable in basic computer skills.

When Rudolf and Nancy first opened a Talbots store in Hingham, they painted the door red. Since then, their stores were often referred to as the store with the red door.

However, women are drawn to the stores because it offers classic American-style clothing. At the same time, it offers clothes in a wide range of sizes. Talbots offer sizes from small and petite to plus-sized women.

As part of its social efforts to bring back to the community, Talbots regularly participates in Breast Cancer-awareness events. It also participates in local and national marathons. Recently, it participated in the Dress for Success event to support low-income women in their search for jobs.

To date, Talbots has opened a new store in Bluffton, South Carolina. The recently opened store focuses on plus-sized clothing for women.
