The company started in 1992 under the name Specialty Retailers, Inc. Since then, the company has changed its name to Stage and acquired 49 Beall-Ladymon stores in 1994. The company operates more than 855 locations under the Bealls name in 40 states. Unlike some of its competitors, this company likes to set up shop in smaller to mid-sized towns.
